
Described as a "pianist of technical brilliance which allows him to express himself in an electrifying manner, demonstrating an imaginative exuberance, sensibility and luminosity which we are not used to hearing at the present time" (Ritmo), Goran Filipec is a musician who never fails to capture the hearts of international audiences and critics. Renowned for his exceptional interpretations of works of Franz Liszt and classical and romantic repertoire of high virtuosity, he defends creativity and subjectivity in performance observing it as co-creation of the musical work. Consequently, he often blends it with his own arrangements and adaptations. As recitalist and soloist with orchestras he performs in European countries, the Americas and Japan, and appears in major festivals such as the Contemporary Piano Faces of the Mariinsky Theatre, Progetto Martha Argerich or International Yokohama Piano Concert.
Thought by Naum Grubert at Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (MA), Natalia Trull at Moscow State Conservatoire P.I.Tchaikovsky (Asprirantura), Marina Ambokadze at Ino Mirkovich Academy of Music (BA) and Oxana Yablonskaya, Goran Filipec holds a PhD in Music from Sorbonne Universités in Paris, with a dissertation devoted to performing practices of 19th and 20th centuries.
His 13 recordings for Naxos Music Group met a remarkable critical acclaim, and got selected of multiple occasions by music magazines such as Gramophone or Record Geijutsu. The albums Hungarian Fantasy (2021) and Paganini Studies (2016) were awarded with the Grand Prix International du Disque of the Budapest Liszt Society.
Goran Filipec presently teaches at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek (Croatia), and the Doctoral School of the University J.J. Strossmayer. He is co-founder of Société Franz Liszt de Genève (Switzerland) devoted to the appreciation of the oeuvre of the Hungarian composer. He fluently speaks six languages and devotes his free time enthusiastically to anthropology, oenology and cuisine.
