BIO

BIOGRAPHY

Pianist of fiery energy and captivating imagination, Goran Filipec has earned international acclaim as one of today’s distinctive interpreters of the virtuoso piano tradition, particularly the music of Franz Liszt. Uniting dazzling command with scholarly insight, he approaches performance as a creative act — a living dialogue with the composer shaped by historical awareness, artistic imagination and cultural context. Many of his artistic projects take the form of concept-driven programs and recordings that cast new light on familiar masterpieces while reviving neglected repertoire.

Filipec’s work brings together performance, recording and research in a singular artistic vision. His programs often place canonical works alongside rarities and rediscoveries, revealing the broader aesthetic, historical and cultural worlds from which they emerged. Whether on stage or in the studio, he seeks not only virtuosity and expression, but perspective, narrative and discovery.

Critics have often noted the rare blend of architectural clarity, poetic sensibility and technical brilliance in his playing. Gramophone described him as “a great pianist: an artist, architect and acrobat,” while the German magazine Rondo hailed him as “a sound magician and seducer of the old school.” Fanfare praised his “absolutely brilliant playing… expansive imagination and opulent temperament.”

As recitalist and soloist with orchestras, Filipec performs throughout Europe, the Americas and Japan, appearing in major venues including the Mariinsky Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Philharmonie de Paris, Teatro Colón and Minato Mirai Hall.

His discography for Naxos Music Group comprises fifteen albums, several devoted to Liszt’s piano music, and has received wide international critical acclaim.
